5/22/2010 - Labarque Creek Conservation Area

It was a beautiful morning to hit the trail. I was in the mid 60's and skies were clear. There were 8 people hiking in total including two prospective participants and me.

The 4-mile trail was a little muddy in spots from the rain earlier in the week but as the tream climbed out of the creek bottom, things dried out quite a bit. This trail is fairly new but well traveled. Last year, when I hiked this trail for the first time, there was no bridge across the creek and the trail was only marked with small orange flags. This year, there was a new bridge across the creek at the start of the hike and the trail was well marked and easy to keep on track.

The hills are long steady climbs but not all that steep. I particularly enjoy the sound of the water running through the sandstone and limestone crreks that drain into the Labarque creek.

This hike is a keeper since it is close to home but fairly remote in that you don't hear any vehicular traffic.
